About Julie Berger Julie Berger is a professional therapist and fine art jeweler who recently began oil painting after taking a class last July from her husband and Mountain Mist Gallery owner David Berger. She had not tried painting since grade school, and sat in on his class secretly hoping she might add another art form to her list of hobbies. She never expected to fall in love with oil painting, or that anyone would want to buy them. David advised her to "paint what you love." She has always loved birds and enjoys painting all varieties of birds native to the Blue Ridge mountains. One of her signatures is the detail she puts into the branches or the tree bark on which the birds are perched. Her father was a Professor of Forestry and taught her to love and appreciate trees as well as the birds who lived in them. One week after painting her first bird, the painting sold. Then two weeks later her second painting sold. She now has collectors commissioning multiple paintings at a time. Her concern of having a basement filled with bird paintings has since disappeared and she now has a loyal following of bird lovers who commission her to paint their favorite feathered friends. Her "To Do" list of future bird portraits is endless and each one speaks to her as they come alive on the canvas. Julie's goal is to capture the unique beauty, innocence and personality of each bird she paints, hoping it will put a smile on the face of her collectors.
